Our speaker, Chester Santos, best know as the 2008 US National Memory Champion and Creator of ‘Steel Trap’ iPhone application (which ranked in the top 50 paid applications in the US) has recently spent time with the highly respected Harvard Graduate Council and the CEO Club of Boston teaching memory training for leaders.

He continues to work in the US and internationally providing as a respected public speaker and corporate trainer in the areas of memory improvement and mental fitness. Chester teaches these techniques to a range of people across many different professions.

Neighbour Day Founder announced as NBN champion

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator the Hon. Stephen Conroy, today announced Mr Andrew Heslop, the founder of Australia’s Neighbour Day and an Australia Day Ambassador, as a Champion for the National Broadband Network [NBN].

“I am honoured to have been invited to lend my support to the NBN because itwill strengthen and connect local communities while delivering vital infrastructure critical to the future economic, social and scientific success of Australia,” Mr Heslop said.

“Just like Neighbour Day, the NBN will be accessible to 100% of Australian homes no matter whether you live in the city or the bush, in a house, an apartment or on a farm.Every home in every street, in every suburb and in every town will be equipped to participate in our quickly changing world.

Don't forget your neighbours this festive season

Andrew Heslop, founder of Neighbour Day and community advocate, reminds us to extend our best wishes to those who live closest to us; our neighbours.  Here is his message:

Australians are being encouraged to remember the people next door, across the street and on the next farm this festive season – especially elderly, vulnerable and single residents who live alone.

“Christmas and the New Year can be a very lonely, depressing time for many Australians. While we’re all focussed on the best gifts to buy our partners, children and relatives it is easy to overlook the people who live around us who may not have anyone to celebrate with,” said Andrew Heslop, the founder & CEO of Neighbour Day and 2011 Australia Day Ambassador.

“While the weeks ahead promise celebration, relaxation and great food there will be neighbours who will not receive any visitors or gifts or special meals.

Andrew Heslop responds to Piers Akerman's Marriage Proposal

Andrew Heslop, a well known commentator on the same-sex marriage debate currently running in Australia, responds to the Piers Akermen article.

Andrew writes, "Piers Akerman is underestimating where the groundswell of support for equal national legal recognition for same-sex couples is emanating from - and that is families (A same-sex union is not a marriage, 21.11.10).  It is the suburban families of inner-city living gay and lesbian residents who are finally standing up on this issue, just as Sydney dad Geoff Thomas did against Opposition Leader Tony Abbott on ABC1's Q&A during the election campaign.

Caring Neighbours Reach Out to Help Perth Man

Neighbours who provided food for a reportedly mentally ill Perth man, unaware his deceased mother and carer was still inside their Beckenham home, demonstrated the importance of caring residents looking out for each other.

“It reconfirms your belief in humanity and the resilience of local communities that neighbours reached out to help when they were asked,” said Neighbour Day founder Andrew Heslop.
